I suppose when we started the unit on community I had never really taken the word “community” and thought about its meaning. Like many people in my class I thought of community as the place where I live. It’s interesting though when we were tasked with the blog assignment to “Look into the ways one of your daily activities connects you to a community of people” I had no trouble talking about my passion which is traveling. Much of my time, money, and day dreaming go into planning my next adventure. Yet, before this class I had never considered myself in this community. Traveling is a strange community as, at least in my own experiences, you share the actual adventures with only a couple of people or sometimes just yourself. The recounting and bragging of all the cool things you’ve seen and experienced is really where you develop your community and where you gain new thoughts and ideas from other travelers. Most of our community results in post-travel not when the actual events occur.
So with all that said, what I really want to relay is - when tasked with picking a writing piece that illustrates audience and voice this blog on my community was an easy target. I did not have to struggle to choose a topic as it had already chosen me. What I learned from this assignment is that I was taking my community for granted and not giving it the proper credit that it deserves. If you have never experienced travel, maybe my essay may persuade you that it’s something you may enjoy, if not become addicted to. Have fun…
